Ryan Nord Kitchen was born in 1988. He lives and works in New York
Following the 2015 exhibition “Summer Paintings” at Terrault Contemporary in Baltimore, and the 2016 exhibition “Winter Paintings” at Nicelle Beauchene in New York City, “Fall Paintings” continues Kitchen’s investigation into the act of perception as it relates to lived experience.
At once neither pictorial artifacts of a landscape, nor purely formal experiments, Kitchen plays with and encourages apparently simple gestural marks into intimations of recognizable landscape objects. Kitchen has spent nearly a decade concerned with manipulating traditional painting concepts in service of exploring the experience of perception as it shifts with time and prior knowledge.
A circle may appear as the sun while lightly dry-brushed strokes may become a cold breeze. While a horizon line drifts into focus, a patch of unpainted linen pulls the painting back to a static and physical object in front of the viewer.
These paintings reward a close and unhurried examination. They are a celebration of the rhythm and passage of time.”

Ryan Nord Kitchen est né en 1988. Vit et travaille à New York
