Lives and works in Paris and Montrouge.

After training at the School of Fine Arts in Venice, Giulia Andreani moved to Paris and studied the History of Contemporary Art at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne. Artist-researcher, she keeps since 2010 an “atlas”, a kind of diary made of a sum of images and documents: historical archives, still frames, family photos, which constitute the matrix of a work in perpetual ramification. In the manner of a family tree, of which certain branches die and others endure, certain images acquire a growing importance: they are sorted, recomposed and reproduced on canvas, through the subjective filter of a “watercolor” painting, in a restricted chromatic field, between gray and blue. Giulia Andreani thus confronts History with its dependence on the image, pointing out the gaps in the collective memory.

Après une formation à l’École des Beaux-arts de Venise, Giulia Andreani s’installe à Paris et étudie l’Histoire de l’Art contemporain, à l’Université Paris IV-Sorbonne. Artiste-chercheuse, elle tient depuis 2010 un « atlas », sorte de journal constitué d’une somme d’images et de documents : archives historiques, still frames, photos de famille, qui constituent la matrice d’une œuvre en perpétuelle ramification. À la manière d’un arbre généalogique, dont certaines branches meurent et d’autres perdurent, certaines images acquièrent une importance grandissante : elles sont triées, recomposées et reproduites sur toile, par le filtre subjectif d’une peinture « aquarellée », dans un champ chromatique restreint, entre gris et bleu. Giulia Andreani confronte ainsi l’Histoire à sa dépendance vis-à-vis de l’image, pointant les lacunes de la mémoire collective.
